Wait:
to stay in one place or do nothing for a
period of time until something happens or in the expectation or hope that
something will happen.
Wait:
to be hoping for something or on the
lookout for something.
If there is anyone who dislikes the
word wait and its meaning, it’s me. I don’t like to wait for anything. I don’t
want to wait in the drive-thru. I don’t want to wait in traffic. I don’t even
want to wait for my clothes to dry in the dryer! Unfortunately, for me and so
many others, waiting is a significant part of our walk with God. We wait for
breakthroughs, healing, deliverance, and even spouses. One definition of the
word wait means to do nothing expecting something to happen. How many times
have we as believers have given up on waiting on God and decided to “fix”
things ourselves? We get tired of doing nothing and decide to take action. The
only problem with that is we end up making things worse than they were before when
we decide to play God or Goddess.
Another meaning of the word wait
means to be hoping for something. While we are waiting for God to answer our
prayers, we should be expecting Him to do just that. Answer us. While in
expectancy, we should be preparing for the answers along with prayer and
fasting. Psalm 37:7 says, be still and
rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him. God
knows the appropriate time for everything. Wait.
In the meantime, we must not give up
on doing the right things. “Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not
allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked -by mere
pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He inevitably
deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows that and
that only is what he will reap. For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature,
sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay, ruin, and destruction, but he who
sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not lose
heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time
and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our
courage and faint (Galatians 6:7-10,
AMP).
There are countless scriptures that
I can provide that encourages waiting on God. Ultimately, we must be willing to
wait on Him. We must be willing to have patience with Him as He is with
us…everyday. God sees and has not forgotten anything. Believe that He hears
your prayers and by faith receive what you’ve asked for. Continue to believe
and wait. Commit your way to the LORD,
trust also in Him, and He shall bring it
to pass (Psalm 37:5, NKJV).
So
be patient, brethren, [as you wait] till the coming of the Lord. See how the
farmer waits expectantly for the precious harvest from the land. [See how] he
keeps up his patient [vigil] over it until it receives the early and late
rains. So you also must be patient. Establish your hearts [strengthen and
confirm them in the final certainty], for the coming of the Lord is very near (James 5:7-8, AMP).
